Rockland County charitable organization: feeding, clothing and providing for those in need

The Family Fund and support services

People to People's comprehensive in-house support services

A major strength of People to People is our ability to respond quickly and decisively to individual needs.

We provide comprehensive support services in-house and serve as a referral source and conduit to a wide range of agencies and organizations throughout Rockland County and New York State, enabling us to help individuals and families who have fallen through the safety net to get back on their feet.

People to People’s Family Fund has been used to:

  • stave off eviction
  • avoid utility shut off
  • secure medical care or prescription medicine
  • help with car repairs
  • obtain gas needed to get to a work or a job interview

– in short, needs of an urgent nature.

Emergency aid for Rockland County residents

People to People's greatest satisfaction comes from helping families who need emergency aid for situations that have immediate and potentially dire consequences.

Our Family Fund provides, on a case by case basis, emergency financial assistance, but only after all other resources and assistance programs are exhausted.

Approximately 1/3 of the funds we distribute to families in financial distress are made possible by FEMA. The other 2/3 is made available by your generous donations.

Thanks to your support, 73 families avoided eviction and utility shut-off.

Mercedes’ Success Story

Mercedes came to America ten years ago, like so many, in search of a better life for herself and her family.

She and her husband both work, but came to People to People when their minimum wage paychecks were just not able to stretch far enough to pay rent and put food on the table.

Within a few months of settling in Haverstraw, Mercedes had developed a reputation as the “go to lady” when people in the community were in need. Generous to a fault, Mercedes often shares what little she has with those who have even less.

Mercedes became an important link for our efforts to people in need living in the Haverstraw community. She has brought many of her “friends” to our door for food and counseling.

One day, to show her gratitude, Mercedes cooked a traditional Peruvian meal for our staff. We began to “hire” Mercedes to provide food for our special meetings or events, and word spread of her delicious plantains and other dishes.

Now, Mercedes is at the beginning of a growing catering business. Mercedes continues to help so many in her own community, and she says that thanks to People to People she is really living the American dream!
